At GFIC, we provide various credits for businesses too small to develop their own experience modification, based on individual experience and characteristics. We offer discounts to larger accounts based upon loss experience, evidenced commitment to safety, and employee care such as health and disability plans, employee assistance plans, and written drug and alcohol policies.


With us you are more than a monthly premium. Our underwriting team uses common sense when working with you and your agent, taking into account your unique needs to better understand your business. What works for one doesn’t work for all. We know and respect that.


We practice a premium reconciliation process to make sure you’re only paying for exposures you actually have. We also offer the ability to add and modify your policy to fit your needs, including affordably adding Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) to your policy.


We know a cookie-cutter payment plan won’t work for everyone. Experience a variety of payment options, including two unique payment plans—Smart Pay and Seasonal Pay—to match your premium payment to your particular cash flow.

About Us

Meet Our Management

Launched in 2010, GFIC was created through a partnership between Robert Murch, owner of Combined Management in Lewiston, Maine; Scott Penwell, an attorney experienced in insurance company startups and acquisitions; and Tony Weller, Managing Director of Bermuda-based Citadel RE, GFIC’s major investor. The partnership wanted to offer a more personalized, workers’ comp-focused insurance alternative for small and medium-sized businesses who may have felt lost in the red tape sometimes experienced with large carriers.

A Maine domiciled company located in Auburn, Maine, where our offices overlook the Great Falls, we were the first new Maine-based insurance company to be licensed in 18 years. We have since expanded to include New Hampshire, receiving our license there in early 2016, and we continue to grow while always remaining accessible to our agents and policyholders.

Gary has a diverse insurance background spanning three decades with a majority of that experience in Northern New England. He served as Branch Vice President for CNA, and was also one of the founding executives at Acadia Insurance Company.
